I was one of the award recipients of the BPI Search for the Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children in 2013. It was around this time (October), ten years ago, when I submitted my application for the award back then. I applied for the "Ibang Klaseng Artist" (Outstanding Artist) Award, and was thankfully, selected as the sole recipient of the category. The BPI Awards gave 10 awards for 3 categories in total: (1) Ibang Klaseng Talino for 8 award recipients, (2) Ibang Klaseng Artist/Athlete for 1 recipient, and (3) Ibang Klaseng Community Leader for 1 recipient. One of the application criteria and requirement was a maximum 1000-word essay. In this blog, I'll be sharing my application essay, in order to honor my father who is still an OFW up-to-date for his own good (or to honor both of my parents even), and to honor all the OFWs and OFW parents out there.
